Notes: Nobuho Miya was born in Iwate, Japan, in 1952, the third generation of the Kamasada family. Nambu cast iron was first made in the middle of 17th century in Iwate, northern Japan, an area rich with the raw material.
The story has it that a master from Kyoto was summoned by the lord to create an iron pot for tea ceremony, which marked the beginning of Nambu-tekki (cast iron). It became exemplary of Japanese traditional craft, and is still popular today. The black color is the result of Japanese lacquer glaze called Urushi which prevents rust.
